Mission
Role: Deputy Headteacher with overall responsibility for Student Welfare, Inspection framework guidance and DSL responsibilities.
Comply with statutory guidance listed under the Children Act 1989 & 2004 and the annual Keeping Children Safe in Education updates. Acting as a source of support, advice and expertise to the school on matters of safety, safeguarding and welfare. Oversee the development of effective mental health and wellbeing provision in line with the government guidance for senior mental health leads. Oversee the RSE/RE curriculum and ensure Independent Schools Standards framework compliance.
The Lycée Francais is an all through (3-18 years old) school, comprising four primary schools and one secondary school spread over four sites. Both French and British curricula are offered to some 3500 pupils.
Main duties:
· Keep up to date with Independent Schools Standards and train staff accordingly
· Line manage the pastoral and medical team
· Co-ordinate the Safeguarding Team
· Work closely with SEND professionals to ensure that children with disabilities are safe and staff are appropriately trained to identify signs of abuse and/or neglect in SEND children
· Ensuring that safeguarding updates and topics are communicated to all staff via newsletters/emails and workshops and statutory safeguarding training
· Acting as a source of support, advice and expertise to staff on matters of safety and safeguarding and when deciding whether to make a referral by liaising with the relevant agencies
· Creating and updating risk assessments around child on child abuse, harmful sexual behaviour, contextualised safeguarding
· Attend senior mental health lead training to acquire new knowledge and maintain an accurate understanding of the landscape of best practice in school mental health and wellbeing
· Work closely with other members of school leadership team on the development and implementation of school's approach to mental health and wellbeing. Where necessary linking the approach to other policies and processes, for example safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and attainment
· Coordinate the school’s provision for pupil’s mental health needs, including oversight of interventions where they are being delivered by staff
· Develop cross curricular approaches that support pupils through the promotion and protection of wellbeing
· Develop training and teaching tools to aid in the delivery of our mental health and wellbeing objectives and responsibilities to staff members, ensuring a consistent school wide approach
· To oversee the ongoing embedding and implementation of the RE/RSE curriculum across the school
Profil
· Senior leadership
· Trained to DSL level 3
· Experience of Ofsted Inspection Framework in Independent or maintained schools
· Experience of support for children and young people’s mental health
· Experience of embedding PSHE/RSE into the curriculum and school culture
· A strong understanding of the Equalities and Diversity Act 2010 and the links to safeguarding
· An undergraduate degree or equivalent level of qualification
Skills, knowledge and personal qualities:
· Proven success in a senior leadership role
· Excellent understanding of safeguarding in the English school education system
· English speaker with at least a good understanding of French
· Outstanding organisational skills and ability to respond in a timely manner to concerns and disclosures
· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate as effectively with Management, pupils and their families and teachers as well as external stakeholders such as police, health and the local authority
· To be available and approachable during school hours and when not available ensure a deputy is available
· The drive and determination to achieve the best possible outcome for very student and ensure that the school have taken every measure to protect the children in their care
· Appropriately challenge staff around safeguarding practice and respond to challenge from proprietors
· Proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite etc.)
· Ability to maintain students confidentiality and promote equal opportunities and abide by the relevant legislation, codes of professional practice, e.g. the CDI Code of Ethics and school policies.
· Professional curiosity with an ability to reflect on practice and engage in continuous professional development to further develop the skills and knowledge required to keep up to date with developments in the sector.
· Be prepared to receive reflective supervision
Working hours per year: 40h per week / 40 weeks per year (1600 hours annually)
Monthly gross salary and benefits:
· From £ 90 000 per annum including all allowances
· Employer contribution to private healthcare
· 15% employer contribution to private pension
· 60 days holiday per annum
